Hot Topic Recently I blogged about the steps you can take to turn your computer into a green machine.
I’ve had quite a few responses to this post. Many of you are not happy about switching your computers off at the end of the day. There seems to be a lot of concern, thinking this may damage the computer.
Let me clear this up for you.
Computers are made up of many different bits and pieces. Every piece performs its very own specific task - together these little guys keep your computer ticking over. So what will happen if you shut them down?
Nothing - not a thing!
Well, that’s as long as you shut everything down properly, don’t just pull the plug or cut off the electricity. Power down properly and your computer will be absolutely fine! Yep you heard it straight - you can switch off your computer and nothing, nothing is going to happen. It will still startup again the next time you need to use it.
In the past computer parts were different and technology wasn’t anything like it is today. This is great news for us. So YES you can SWITCH OFF YOUR COMPUTER and all the other bits connected to it. Not only is this better for the environment but it‘ll also save you money at the same time.
Until the next time happy computing

Hot Topic We’re surrounded by it…constantly reminded about just how important it is to be green. So how big is your carbon footprint?
And what about you’re PC? Have you thought about how much power your PC uses when its starts up when its performing tasks and even when it’s not doing anything - just ticking over, idling like a car engine?
It’s a fact - our PC’s consume energy! Over time this adds up to a lot of energy like most other electrical appliances you have lying around. A PC is different though!
You can transform your PC into a “Green Machine” easily - it’s very quick with immediate results! You can do it right now after reading this blog if you like - it’s not going to cost you a thing either!
First off - turn off the screen saver and set your screen to switch off instead!
Second - set your PC to go to sleep if you’re not using it right away!
Third - switch your PC off altogether if you’ve finished using it for the day/night!
Fourth - think before you print - do you really need a hard copy of that information?
Five - switch off/unplug any PC connected devices you’re not using (printers, cameras mobile phones etc)
Now don’t get me wrong, there is still a whole lot more you can do to “Greenify” your PC but that involves spending a little cash…so for now just following these very simple suggestions above will transform your PC into a “Green Machine”.
Not to mention what it should do for your electric bill!!
If you’d like some help on just how to do this then please feel free to email me -
